Gmail Experiment Over

My gmail experiment is over. I'm reverting to Apple's Mail.app as my main email processing axe. The big downside to using gmail as my primary mail application was that I had no off-line access to my email. Being somewhat of a road warrior there were times I wanted access to mail but was unable to find a network connection. Yes, shocking as it may seem, there are some bandwidth deserts out there even in New Jersey. I suppose I could have used Gmail Mobile but my phone couldn't handle it. I also suppose I could have kept Mail.app in sync more frequently but the idea was to make my life simpler and go down to one app not suddenly support two mail applications. I guess I could have always bough some kind of EVDO card as well to use the cellular network for internet connectivity but I didn't want to shell out the dough. At some point web based mail will fix the local caching of email issue and I'll be back for a second look. Now what I need is a better spam filter.

Mom's Rabbit Stew Recipe

Mom's Rabbit Stew Recipe This is my mom's rabbit stew recipe. I grew up eating wild game and animals that we raised on our 5 acre property in southern New Jersey. Although we raised domestic rabbits for food, Yes, folks I said food, this recipe was one that I remember enjoying many times when my father or one of his friends brought home a catch of wild rabbit. The thick dark and rich tomato and red wine sauce mellowed and enhanced the taste of the game. Mom would serve this dish up with bountiful scoops of polenta. Mom gave me the recipe this weekend and I gave it a try. Not bad for my first attempt. 1 rabbit cut into pieces (preferably wild although domestic will do) 1/4 cup of olive oil 1 yellow onion sliced 4 Garlic cloves peeled and crushed 2 tablespoons of fresh rosemary 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme 2 cups of fresh tomato sauce 2 1/2 cup red wine 2 tablespoons of Tomato Paste 1 cup black and green olives Salt and pepper each side of the rabbit. In a medium to large skillet or stew pot heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add the onion and cook until the onion is translucent. Add the rabbit and rosemary and thyme Toss with the onion, garlic and oil so that each piece is coated. Cook until the meat is lightly browned. Add the tomato sauce, red wine, and olives. Cook at a simmer for about 30-40 minutes. Cook up some polenta to complete the dish.

The Boys are Back in Town

Ladies and Gentlemen the Gillmor Gang is back and better than ever. I was pretty down on our intrepid heros back in July but As I stated in my post I would give them kudos when the show got back on the rails. I'm pleased to opine that the latest shows are better than the original set on IT Conversations. The latest show was phenomenal. It started off a bit shaky like the first few moments of a Grateful Dead space jam searching for form and structure, but it got into full swing when the young Mr. Arrington commented on a Wall Street Journal article by Rebecca Buckman which threw some stones at the blogosphere. Arrington argued that this was tantamount to an orchestrated attack on the blogosphere by the mainstream press. (No offense to Arrington, but he often comes across like whining Tucker Carlson sitting down at the same table with McNeil, Lehrer, and John McLaughlin discussing geopolitics, but I digress.)The rest of the Gang, quite wisely, shattered that theory and injected some reality into the discussion and what followed was the most thoughtful exchange on disclosure, blogging, reputation, and the press (whatever that is these days) that I've heard in a while. Steve Gillmor scores big on Arrington by correctly diagnosing his lack of perspective as being blinded by the limelight. John Udel talks about how he had to shelve a book on blogging as "annotating your career" for lack of an existence proof. Basically, leveling the charge that our basic human desire to be loved by all is creating an internet full of bad pundits. Mike Vizard sticks the shows ending with a comment about journalistic responsibility. Fuck. I was sweating, pupils dilated, slack jawed, wanting more. Bravo. Bravo.

Whiteout

It's 3:45am. There is about 6 to 9 inches of snow on the ground and it's coming down pretty hard. There's going to be a lot more snow on the ground if this keeps up until 4pm. Good thing I bought a new snow shovel.
